Technology: The growing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) to antibiotic treatment for infections is evident worldwide (WHO). Once a drug resistant is present in a diabetic infection, it rapidly populates the infection, using excess glucose to accelerate growth. In contrast, Magnetic Hyperthermia causes the bacteria to self-heat and die. Infections that resist antibiotic treatment, (staphylococcus, etc…), can be eliminated.
Magnetic Hyperthermia exploits the biosynthesis of iron that bacteria use for its own metabolic processes. This Magnetic Heating (AMF) causes the bacteria cell’s iron nanoparticles to self-heat. Cell death follows. Dynamically, the AMF can penetrate the bacterial biofilm and also bypass the peripheral vascular disease to open a wide pathway for the antibiotics to reach the infection. Amputation: a serious, costly, and too common possibility for diabetic patients: is avoided.

Computer Control: The computer controls the heating power at or below the FDA limit, allowing for safe operation. (Patent Pending)
Hand Unit (above) or the Foot Insertion Module are designed to treat Foot and Lower Limb Infections. AMF heating penetration is up to 50 mm.
LEG INFECTIONS: Magnetic Hyperthermia is a key treatment for leg infections.

This Foot Infection was treated with antibiotics but the infection continued.

BEFORE AMF BEFORE AMF
Tissue samples taken from live patients whose infections spread despite antibiotic treatment. (C) E. Coli infected muscle sample. (D) E.Coli infected bone sample. Both treatments were exposed to magnetic hyperthermia heating (AMF) for 5-15 minutes. Longer exposure results in higher death rate for the bacteria. Scanning electron microscope images revealed the destruction of the bacterial cell wall. AMF treatment also resulted in excess reactive oxygen species formation, which might contribute to bacteria cell death. (As required by the FDA: A lengthy safety study of 25 female rats showed an overall lack of significant edematous response to AMF.)
